Introducing: Corktown Sounds
An eight week live music event in Corktown
WHAT:
Detroit weekly strolling outdoor music festival
Featuring local street musicians and buskers encouraging visitors to walk the Corktown neighborhood and support businesses in a safe, socially distant way in summer 2021
WHEN:
For the first year, every Thursday from 6pm – 8pm in August – September.
The goal is to eventually expand to cover May – October in 2022. (Seeking sponsors)
Opportunity to host a winter version in conjunction with Corktown Aglow.
This initiative is inspired by the City of Chelsea “Sights and Sounds on Thursday Nights” live music series (pictured above), created 15 years ago by CBA president Bob Roberts. Visit www.chelseafestivals.com/soundsights/ for more info.
WHERE:
10 centralized locations throughout Corktown along Michigan Avenue between 6th and 20th, Trumbull Ave from the expressway to Howard,
Eventually we will expand into North Corktown at locations such as Nancy Whiskey, and Spaulding Court.
WHY:
To continue the positive “buzz” about Corktown. To re-invigorate the environment after the COVID “interruption.” To create and encourage walkability and showcase the new energy in our community. To support the inordinately hard hit by COVID arts community.

Through a joint partnership between our:
- Corktown small business community
- New large corporate citizens
- Local Corktown nonprofit partners
- Residents of Corktown and all City of Detroit supporters
